Ultrasound diagnosis of ovary’s pathologies
Auteurs
Résumé
Most people involved in bovine reproduction use an ultrasound machine. However, this extraordinary technique is often only used for early gestation, or ultra early non-gestation diagnosis. An experienced veterinarian, with over a million cows palpated in his career, has a margin of error in assessing the presence/ absence of the corpus luteum of about 50%. The margin of error increases when the vet has to define the follicular map, or establish the degree of luteinisation of an ovarian cyst, or has to diagnose a cyst or an abscess of the ovarian bursa. Ovarian ultrasonography enables the gynecologist to reduce, up to zero, the margin of error in his assessment, but also enables diagnoses to be made in real time that would otherwise be impossible with palpation alone (ovarian dysplasia). This application is indispensable and irreplaceable today.
