Résumé
This article describes the results of the treatment of severe mastitis with a systematic single intravenous injection of fluoroquinolone. It does not take into account the additional treatments carried out by the practitioner which depended on the animal's clinical condition. The protocol must include bacteriological analysis of the milk from the infected quarter, using the "Patho 12" method, and the results of an antibiogramme performed using the disc method in accordance with the French and European standard NF 47-107. The main results of this retrospective study identify the major role played by enterobacteria in the mammary infections responsible for mastitis and the very low rate of resistance of coliforms to marbofloxacin. The results also make it possible to objectively assess the results of this treatment method and highlight the extent to which these mastitis infections can be detrimental to the farm. Finally, these observations serve to emphasise the vital importance of systematically measuring body temperature when mastitis occurs and of the early intervention by the veterinary surgeon, who is the only person capable of treating these infections effectively.
